Affordable Housing
As the Town of Marana grows and property values increase, the need for a variety of affordable housing options for working families and seniors has grown.  Each year the Town partners with a variety of community-based organizations to develop new affordable housing options for Marana residents.  In order to address the growing need for safe affordable housing in the Town, the Community Services Department is currently working with community partners to develop a long-term plan to expand Affordable Housing programs and provide additional housing options for families with incomes between 50% and 120% of the area median income.

To date, the Affordable Housing Program has sold 13 new homes to qualifying families.  These single-family homes have been built within existing middle- to lower-income neighborhoods as part of an infill strategy to help revitalize the neighborhoods.  Under current guidelines, qualifying families must be first time home buyers, have at least one child below the age of 18 and have a gross income at or below 80 percent of the area median.  Good or repairable credit is a requirement, and families must qualify for FHA, Conventional or Rural Development mortgage loans.

In addition to the programs and services offered by the Town of Marana, the Pima County Department of Community Development and Neighborhood Conservation maintains a web site for their Affordable Housing Program at http://www.pima.gov/CED/CDNC/AH/index.html.  The Homeownership Program provides down payment or closing costs assistance for qualifying home buyers.
